WordPress Plugin and Theme Competition

Mark of the [Weblog Tools Collection](http://weblogtoolscollection.com/) fame has announced the [Wordpress Plugin and Mod Competition](http://weblogtoolscollection.com/archives/2005/04/04/wordpress-plugin-competition/). Any takers here? To be honest, I got some mood for another round of plugin coding, not to mention I’m in the middle of a blog related work. The problem is that I don’t have any ideas :(.

Meanwhile, [Alex King](http://www.alexking.org) has announced the winners of this year’s [WordPress Theme Competition](http://www.alexking.org/software/wordpress/themes/blog/2005/03/31/the-winners/). Congratulations to the winners!

  1. as i’m new to blogtools but have to setup a new site for http://www.forecast.ch i was looking for some plugins that would help me with little things.

    random header image
a plugin where you set a folder as headerimages folder and the plugin then shows a randomly selected images from that folder in the header of the blog. i know there are some themes that do this but to have it as a plugin would be nice.

    show category icon
it would be very nice if you could link each category to a little icon and show these categoryicons for each post.

    custom pseudo-template
as i’ll use wordpress’ new page function to administer an internal part of the site where only static pages are requiered, it would be nice to have a quicklink button for new posts that inserts a predefined structure into the textarea. (eg. i defined a table structure once and can insert the empty table with the click of a button)

reverse engineered xml data for blog
let’s say i have an application to administer dates for events and bookings for dj’s playing on these events and i now want to publish that info on my blog. instead of reading the info out of the db and displaying it with a custom sql query and custom html wouldn’t it be nicer to have a plugin that reads out whatever table or query i give it, shows me the result and let’s me define what is the title of the article and so on. that way the plugin would then generate a static xml file from my data and my blog would then use this xml file to show the data. that way i wouldn’t have to do a dynamic db driven page. (hope i’m not to confusing here….) and as a sideeffect i could publish the generated xml file as a feed as well.

hope this gives you some first ideas about writing new plugins. if only they don’t exist yet and i simply haven’t found them. ;)

    cheers marc

Got an idea for you. Since I can not figure out how to create a plug-in… maybe you can.

On my homepage and blog, there are several different styles of Progress meters/Percent markers designed in CSS. I come up with so many fun designs. But …

I wish there was a way for it to be a plugin, so when you need to update your progress. It’s two clicks in the admin panel and not in the master php file.

It would help the less techy alot.

    Thanks
